Greg Duncan is planning to assemble The Wall from 100 laminated pieces of boat-grade Huon pine, each one metre wide, three metres high and 100mm thick. The completed Wall will be 100 metres in length.
Each panel is carved in bas-relief, rather like the effect on a coin’s surface.Using subjects inspired by photographs and drawings, sometimes taken from life models, each piece is sculpted with a mallet and chisel. Each panel weighs 250 kilos and is lifted into place using a chain block. This is art to which the public can relate. The Wall examines subjects that, although part of our history, also feature in contemporary debate in Tasmania – mining and logging the environment are just wo examples. Greg is an accurate observer and a storyteller. The Wall enables such controversial issues to be examined/pondered. Like all great art it demands your full attention.” Duncan
