Proceedings of the Fourth International Seminar on Strategic Versus Tactical Approaches in Mining

Literature on mining strategies is very sparse, however, this is not a reflection of the importance of the topic. The consequences of implementing the wrong strategy for a mining company could have a lethal impact. Even when a sound strategy is defined, it is important to cascade the corporate strategy to individual sites and then align the tactical decisions to the strategy to minimise the risk of losing value due to poor decisions. These proceedings contain papers that explore the central theme of the seminar: strategic versus tactical approaches in mining, from a variety of aspects including: financial, mine planning and scheduling, geomechanics, mine safety, environmental, education and research. With numerous case studies, these proceedings constitute a rich and unique source of useful information for the mining industry. Given the incredible boom that the mining industry has enjoyed for many years, and the growth opportunities of mining companies from maximising the value of their current mineral assets, it is difficult to imagine that there are topics more important to explore, at the present time, than strategic and tactical approaches to mining. pp. 377 illusts graphs #0820 (Name on cover.)
