… And so my answer to the question “Can we get along with Russia?” is “Yes.” … We can do it if we know our objective, if we make plans to achieve it, and if, in adhering to our program, we are tougher than the Russians could ever be. We have the moral and physical power to stop the Soviet leaders cold, and we should not hesitate to use it. We can check any future aggression if we are alive to the danger that confronts us. If we emulate the ostrich and bury our head in the sand, we shall get the resounding kick from a Russian boot that such an undignified posture invites.
