“The author, Pat Chappell, did a very detailed and complete job with this book on the 1955-56-57 Chevrolet. The book details the pre-1955 model year happenings that gave Chevrolet the push for the 1955’s, and how the next two years played out on the overall automobile market, with Chevrolet surpassing Ford production numbers in 1957 by less than 200 cars. The book also speaks on the next model years (1958 and beyond), the dawning of a new era for Chevrolet.
The book is no longer published, based upon my knowledge, so whatever comes up on the Internet remains. It is a great sourcebook for understanding the automobile market at that time, as well as understanding the Chevrolet models that were available for those 3 model years, as well as all of the exterior paint schemes, interior trims available, and production numbers by body style for the three years.
The book is good for automobile history buffs, as well as those who are pursuing the purchase of a 1955-56-57 Chevrolet, and want information on deciphering body styles, colors, accessories, and the like BEFORE their final purchase decision is made. The book is a near-MUST for those who are pursuing the purchase of a fully restored 1955-56-57 Chevrolet, lots of economy body styles (such as the one-fifty or two-ten model) have probably crossed the auction block and been the base for adding upscale body style (like Bel-Air trim), and the best way to know that is by the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), but if you don’t how to decipher the VIN, this leaves one vulnerable to the purchase of an imposter !”
