WEST AUSTRALIANA Agriculture Photography
As a collection of photography and prose dating back to the early nineties, the The Sympathetic Cow Murderer is a timely piece of language emerging from the rural heartland of Western Australia. It first reads as a semi autobiographical foray into the life of a reluctant farmer, but then, under layers of self-discovery lies a topical modern day piece that attempts to explore the profound state of play in which we, as a species and world community, find ourselves. Davy attempts to engage the reader with this challenging critique, which is sometimes wrapped in stinging barb, followed by such gentle observation. As a vehicle of communication and debate, this book is a critically timed discussion emerging from the base foundation of any civilization: the land, land that feeds us; land which we so forgetfully depend upon. Instead of little hope, this book hints of other ways, invites belief in alternatives, and encourages engagement of diversity instead of mindless knee jerk reaction.
