Records the story of Yampi Spond situated in the far North of Western Australia, of the exploration and development of the great iron ore deposits on Cockatoo and Koolan Islands and of the men who by their foresight, courage and endurance conquered the region. At the time of this story, political opinion differed as to the wisdom of developing and exporting the rich iron ore, and the Export Embargo of the mid thirties and World War II did much to postpone the ultimate mining and shipping of this great mineral wealth. With the development of Yampi began the great Australian Mining Boom, now part of the nation’s history and heritage of every Western Australian. pp. xi, 230 illusts, maps First Edition #0320 (Small closed tear to back of dustjacket.
