MARITIME –
Story of the AIMPE, the union which worked to professionalise marine engineers and guard their interests both afloat and ashore. It shows how the Institute has survived for more than a century of revolutionary change in the Australian maritime world, winning officer status and supporting its members against the claims of owners, ships’ masters and rival unions. The demands of new technology, fierce international competitive and the need to accept multi-skilling of ships’ crews, have forced the AIMPE into the vanguard of change.
