George Urquhart Allen was born in Scotland in 1900 and served in the Royal Flying corps and the Royal Air Force during the First World War and into the 1920s. In 1929 he joined Australian National Airways and flew with Charles Kingsford Smith and Charles Ulm. During the Second World War he served in the Royal Australian Air Force with Catalina flying boats. After the war he re-joined Qantas. Air pilot and Deputy General Manager of Qantas. Pilot with Australian National Airways, 1929-1931 and employee of Qantas, 1934-1961. Allan flew with Charles Ulm and P.G. Taylor in the record-breaking “Faith in Australia” flight from England to Australia in 1933 |
