Railways
2nd revised edition.
Locomotive No 1 hauled the first train to run in NSW in 1855.
The development of the railway network opened new areas and led to growth of towns and trade in NSW. No 1 was instrumental in building and operating the first railway which ran from Sydney to Parramatta. It has miraculously survived from the early age of steam and is one the most significant and treasured objects in the Powerhouse Museum’s collection.
Research for this edition has brought to light new information and corrects many of the myths and legends that have grown around Locomotive No 1.
