Comparing British and colonial vernacular examples, it describes the architectural developments of the first 60 years of British settlement in Australia and also traces the colonial revival of the early 20th century. Includes notes and references, a list of references contemporary to 1814, a glossary, a bibliography, illustration sources and an index. The authors are well-known Sydney-based architects. Philip Cox AO is the co-author of publications including ‘Restoring Old Australian Houses and Buildings’ (1975) and ‘The Australian Functional Tradition’ (1988).
