AUSTRALIAN ART Aboriginal Indigenous
Accompanies the first major survey exhibition of historical and contemporary art work from Cape York Peninsula’s three diverse cultural regions – west Cape, east Cape and the rainforest. Includes a series of essays, interviews and artist and community profiles. Over 300 art works and cultural objects including shields, fibre works, sculptures, ceramics, paintings and works on paper were sourced from private and public collections throughout Australia. More than 60 Indigenous artists featured. The term “story place” is used to describe an area of particular significance – natural features such as mountains and water sources relating to spiritual or cultural beliefs.
For the first time in one book, the art and culture of Cape York is observed through a series of essays, interviews, and artist and community profiles. Richly illustrated, it features the art work, the people and the environments of Cape York. Contributing authors: Lindy Allen, David Burnett, Sally Butler, Peter Denham, Julie Ewington, Barry Hunter, Trish Johnson, Djon Mundine, Avril Quail, Lynne Seear, Peter Sutton. Features over 200 colour illustrations.
