AUSTRALIAN FLORA & FAUNA Conservation Environment Ecology
“The Alcoa Landcare Project provides an exemplary model of corporate sponsorship through the funding of community-based Landcare projects in rural and urban locations in Western Australia and Victoria. Launched in WA in 1989 the Alcoa Landcare Project coincided with the Federal Government’s launch of the Decade of Landcare. One of the key elements underpinning the success of the Alcoa Landcare Project was a corporate sponsorship model which included: a commitment to continuity of funding; the development of strategic partnerships with a number of government agencies and environmental non-government organisations; and, the direct involvement of Alcoa personnel with community groups. The level of commitment demonstrated by community groups and individuals keen to achieve positive environmental outcomes. This book recounts the history of Alcoa’s decision to fund a major initiative in Landcare, examines the nature of the sponsorship model, and tells the stories of the various projects and groups sponsored.”
