BOATS MARITIME EXPLORATION AUSTRALIANA
The surveying voyages of John Lort Stokes on H.M.S. Beagle continued the work of Cook, Bligh and Flinders in mapping Australia’s coastline. Conscientious and competent though occasionally foolish, Stokes explored Bass Strait, the Gulf of Carpentaria and much of northern and western Australia ; includes encounters with, and observations about, Aboriginal people.
