The detailed history of the 2/32nd Infantry Battalion. The 2/32nd Australian Infantry Battalion was one of the three infantry Battalions formed in England in 1940. Originally formed as part of 7 Division, it sailed to the Middle East and was selected to go to Tobruk to join the 24 Brigade, 9 Division for part of the siege. It remained with this brigade in 9 Division for the rest of the war. After being withdrawn from Tobruk and following a training period in Palestine, 2/32 Battalion took part in the two epic battles at El Alamein before returning to Australia in time for the offensives against the Japanese at Lae-Finschhafen. The Battalion’s fourth and final campaign took place in British North Borneo and at the war’s end was responsible for the collection and interment of the Japanese troops after the surrender. First Edition, SCARCE. (Prev ownership name blacked out on prelim.)
